The old, human internet did not work by passively getting interesting content shoveled at you. It worked by active discovery. You followed links from human content that interested you to other content you thought might also be interesting. If you had a feed, it had content you had subscribed to. You did a web search on something that interested you and the results were not all garbage (I would argue most of what a web search produces these data is essentially spam).

Your notion to accept spam is because the enshittified internet has perverted your expectations to expect to find interesting things by passively having them shoveled at you, whether by social media feed or email.

Depending what you find acceptable there are things you can do. For example at work we proxy through a mailgun account to do simple smtp notifications from bash scripts and webapps.I would imagine you could also proxy from an email server.

And you can at least manage your own email domain accounts via various webhosts. This may not meet your criteria for self hosted but its more independent then using gmail.

I have no idea what you are describing in half your items, but it certainly has preview panels, and lots of things you don’t mention: open terminal here, synchronized terminal panel, split windows, support for browsing over SFTP, keeping folder tree as you browser down or not, zoom, etc.

I will bet a lot of the listings you are looking at really are OEM unlocked, they are just not clear about it. I bought a refurbished pixel 7 pro on Amazon in 2023 for $234. The listing just says “service provider: unlocked”. I installed graphene on it.

That said, I see a subsequent review on this listing commissioning that the received phone was not carrier unlocked, so I guess you have to be prepared for some trial and error and returns.

I would broaden your eBay search to just “unlocked” and then maybe message sellers to verify the kind of unlocked state.
