companies fundamentally do not “employ people because they can afford to”. they employ people because they make more profit if they do than if they don’t.

so, even if a company makes $1b in profit each year, they can still fire 2000 people as long as they think that it will increase profit to $1.2b per year. there is no (and i repeat: NO) connection between “a company is profitable” and “it will retain all or hire more employees”.

renewable energy took a long time to take off because the cost of it had to fall low enough first, which can only happen through substantial subsidies, which only germany and china were willing to do. germany cancelled the project sometime around 2012 while china pulled all the way through.

uhh, the bots are requesting multiple sites in parallel, not in series, so it’s difficult to say “hey look, that user moves through 5 pages per second”. instead, you’d say “hey look, there’s 5 users each crawling through 1 page per second”.

look i know that this gets a lot of hate but the current trajectory of “you need to prove your worth to the world to have a legitimate reason to exist” is just not sustainable. fuck all that “we support that artist”, we should be supporting the person, whether they output art or not.
