Count Binface has run in other elections before as a joke of sorts. It’s just that the major parties are not running anyone in this election. Farage resigned and then immediately ran for his by-election to pause the investigation into his 5 million pound crypto “donation” since the body doing it can only investigate while he’s a member of parliament. The other parties aren’t running so that Farage doesn’t get the narrative win of the byelection making him “vindicated by the people”

The technology for renewables is not the main limiting factor anymore. In recent years the economics have changed. Renewables are the cheapest form of power today and dominate (90-almost 100%) new global energy capacity because it’s so cheap. Grid scale batteries have become viable and are starting to be a significant portion of grid power in many countries

The amount of oil supply removed is significantly larger this time. With the war in Ukraine there were also some more obvious places to get oil from instead. It’s less obvious this time

California got a state law to enforce net neutrality in 2018. This is a good part of what limited the damage of Trump overturning it the first time
