yeah what you are talking about is people eating orders of magnitude less meat. I had a friend actually that I thought was vegan but they actually would not eat factory farmed meat or animal products which essentially made her a vegan as getting any meat that was ok for her moral philosophy was both hard to find and if you did prohibitadely expensive. All that being said the environment impact of modern meat production varies on the type of meat and animal products.
