Look at that face. His parents and his bullies failed us all in exactly the same way: he should have been hit more.

If they have sufficient evidence, throw the book at him. Commercial copyright infringement is something that comes closest to earn capital punishment in the US.

I am not surprised. They break the law and account for the fines in their business model.

Not that they would ever get punished, but if they did, it should be based on a percentage of their net worth. None of this “oh, 200 billion annually? Please pay your $100 fine”

Them = publishers? Yes, because publishers and the authors who supply them are the ones owning copyrights. Who else but owners would care about copyrights (literally the rights to copy). It does look to me like AI developers infringed on tons of copyrights but that will be for the court to look at and decide.

Copyright is bullshit, but the only thing worse is assholes like Zuck getting away with what’s illegal for everyone else.

And even if the lawsuit wins, you know the fines are a) going to be paltry b) mostly not going to go to those affected… which is everybody, basically.

Laws don’t apply to the rich, we all know that, and so does Zuckerbot.

The worst that will happen is a small fine. Small for them, but devastating for anyone not in control of hundreds of billions. “Cost of doing business.” And, they’ll keep right on doing it.

Zuckerberg seems to be on a losing streak: from the Metaverse tanking, to the Meta Ray-Ban glasses being used to spy on people (and train Ai), and this lawsuit on copyright infringement. When was the last time any of his companies had a win? Every time they seem to steal defeat from any sort of victory.
