It is written in the sky that this will backfire. Banning social media for people under 16 and they will discover and invent alternative for it. It is like putting an obstacle in a natural path in a park people will find a way. The next step will be that when this generation will be in power, they will finally put restrictions on the the older one to take such bad decisions.

I have heard this argument and agree with it. However… to use those services, you already have to dox yourself. You have to create an account (they nerf anonymous access to the point of unusability) and in doing so, link your name into the web of information these ad brokers and their ilk already have about you. And that is FAR MORE than any government-issued ID would provide.

So my immediate reaction to an ID requirement is “no way” but further thought reveals that it really doesn’t matter. The only way to win is not to play. None of those social media apps/sites are necessary, nobody has to use them.

You do remember that these are the same folks that voted themselves out of the EU, right? We won’t be seeing a very large dip in social media usage

You’re ignorant as anything to be using that word causally. You’re taking about human beings. Grow up you damaged, frightened child.

I suspect they’re jumping on your use of the word “retarded”, since some see using it as an insult as a slur against people with intellectual disabilities. (They also can’t spell “casually” and substituted a word with quite a different meaning, which makes it even tougher to decode what they’re saying.)
