Aaaah so even less reason to use it sadly.

On Linux there is Falkon. Windows too. (QT WebKit) And the reason I won’t use this will likely be the same as Falkon. Missing plugins etc. Other than that they are fine. Bitwarden has a desktop app. (Electron? Dunno but it would be ironic) But no auto fill ability. Darkreader? Nope. There may be some limited adblocking, but no greasemonkey type functionality.

9·15 days agoYeah, I was looking for a better source. And I don’t blame you. Unfortunately there’s much bigger fish that most are talking about. So this isn’t getting the recognition and coverage it might deserve. But Finding out that Epstein has connections to Moot, 4chan, and possibly /pol or Q. It’s not inconsequential.
It’s definitely on the more plausible conspiracy side.

513·15 days agoAlso fun fact, apparently Chris Poole is mentioned in the files. Extra fun fact, apparently /pol on 4Chan was opened within days of the two meeting. Maybe no causation, but it’s a fascinating correlation. Was Epstein Q?

4·16 days agoHuman nature causes divisions. Political parties can exacerbate them. Military crackdowns certainly don’t help it.

3·17 days agoWell, I think the bigger risk is them going after those that host with bad legislation. Perhaps even those that participate. Yes we can defederate. Though when they or any other parties vanguard come to assault, jail, or murder you for BS violations. Using the states monopoly on violence. It’s not that effective. And that is 100% where this will go. You will use only government approved options they can monitor under severe penalty.

Technology@lemmy.world•Netflix Becomes Max-Level Patron Of Blender's Development FundEnglish
5·17 days agoWell, those donating time and resources often get extra consideration. But Ton has been fiercely independent for decades. And even though he’s stepped down from his leadership role. I think the board he helped put in place has things in good hands. They, KDE etc have forged their own path and shown the viability of their models. They’d be fools to abandon that or relinquish control after 30 years.
Tons have come and gone with little fan fair. Blender OTOH has quietly made inroads into industry and the hearts of many many people. I have used blender since the mid 90s. Where it is today compared to back then is unimaginable. I can’t wait to have my mind blown by where they go in the future. Nodes and simulation are really shaping up. Who knows, between them and the love the NLE editor has been getting. Adobe, Houdini, and even Nuke might get some competition.
You haven’t seen his arc piano then.

60·18 days agoIf all the other top level donators haven’t done that by now I don’t think there’s much to worry about. And if they had plans to, I think they would have to face off against the other top level donators. So it wouldn’t be that easy either.

111·19 days agoOkay, and? Go back and read my posts. That has nothing to do with anything I was talking about. I specifically mentioned that I was referring to lay people and that I thought myself being a techy that it was glossing over a lot of nuance.
But then I also pointed out that it was nitpicky and pedantic nerdsplaning. Something I should have paid attention to myself. Hell, it’s something I’ve done myself. So it’s not like I’m trying to insult you. I understand 100% how this happens.

222·19 days agoYou mean spam trap? Outside of 2FA or a few other small things, which even those are using it less. Who actively engages with it on a regular basis. I can DM friends and family easier, with less spam and restrictions on multiple other platforms. And those that do actively engage with it are often using HTML hypertext interfaces. (Proton Gmail etc) I didn’t mention Usenet either. Or ssh that I use daily.
Most people don’t have a pop or SMTP app installed anymore. Not outlook, not Thunderbird, etc etc etc. It’s easy to imagine a world without email. So many other apps and services easily slot in to replace it. And already have in many places. Now, try to imagine a world without HTML or HTTP servers. What would that even look like?

177·19 days agoYou’re thinking of the ARPANET. When people think of the Internet. They think of the network that Gore pushed hard to open to the public. And the interface Lee designed. Gopher is having a small resurgence, and Gemini exists. But effectively what the average person sees as the Internet is their child philosophically.
I mean as a techy you aren’t wrong. There’s a lot of underlying things and technologies that sort of glosses over. But to the layperson at large we’re just pedantically nitpicking.
