The UK should never rejoin until it abolishes its first past the post system.

Europe@feddit.org•Germany: Iraqi sentenced to life for enslaving Yazidi girlsEnglish
12·2 days agoAs I state right at the beginning: it depends on the context. Most of the time that’s not the case, sure, but it’s still gross.
Pee against a tree is unhygienic and it can damage the tree’s bark, just ask my Japanese maples. Some people can be such pigs, they come across a beautiful, unfenced garden by the roadside, and some incontinent types immediately think about going there to take a leak.

13·2 days agoI didn’t say that. But depending on the context, it could at least be considered exhibitionism and therefore sexual harassment.

Europe@feddit.org•European Parliament adopts proposals to improve Democracy Shield, calls out Russia as primary threat to democratic integrityEnglish
22·3 days agoThe main problem lies with the politicians people voted for in each country’s elections (who are then reflected in the European Council and the Commission), not the EU as a concept or even as a set of institutions, or at least, not entirely so in the latter case.
Ok, but democracy is still failing here if laws are passed in the EU in such a scummy way.

World News@lemmy.world•Young Indonesian couple publicly caned after kissing on TikTokEnglish
8·12 days agoIn a Christian state, kissing in public is also prohibited. People in the West have forgotten this because, here, countries are secular, even though Christianity is the dominant religion.
For example, in my country, Portugal, before the Carnation Revolution of April 25, 1974, which introduced secularism, kissing in public or even holding hands was prohibited. The penalty could range from a simple fine to imprisonment. There was even a crime of “vadiagem” if you were caught in public, say, in a park, doing nothing during standard weekly working hours.
The previous regime in Portugal, the Salazarist Estado Novo, is generally described by historians as a quasi-fascist, Christian-Nationalist regime.

3·12 days agoAnd the Commission and national governments want to do away with the right to privacy under the pretext of protecting children, while the real reason is that American tech companies have been pressuring and bribing Ylva Johansson and many others to implement this agenda in the EU, even SVT reported on this three years ago. Europe@feddit.org•Digital euro: The plan to Trump-proof the EU's economiesEnglish
2·13 days agoTrue, but they weren’t the only ones.
P.S.: I just want to make it clear that I have nothing against the digital euro. I think it will be positive, but let’s see how it is actually implemented in practice. At the same time, what the article’s title claims is just absurd and I see no willingness on the part of the largest parliamentary group to do so.

Europe@feddit.org•German intelligence says almost half of AfD party members potential far-right extremistsEnglish
1·14 days agoBecause CDU will continue trying to win over voters further to the right, and to that end, they will tend to keep adopting positions further to the right until they become increasingly indistinguishable from the far-right.

It will not be difficult to dismantle the EU, one need only observe the trends among the electorate in Germany and France.
