Rogers has arguably become the public face of the Trump administration’s growing hostility to European liberal democracies. Since assuming office in October, she has met with far-right European politicians, criticized prosecutions under longstanding hate speech laws, and boasted online of sanctions against critics of hate speech and disinformation on US big tech platforms.
Rogers is undersecretary of state for public diplomacy, a top-10 state department role that was created in 1999 to strengthen relationships between the US and foreign publics, as opposed to foreign governments and diplomats.
Rogers, however, appears to be concerned with winning over a particular slice of foreign public opinion.
Her recent posts on Twitter/X have included a characterization of migrants in Germany as “barbarian rapist hordes”, a comment on Sweden apparently linking sexual violence to immigration policy (“If your government cared about ‘women’s safety,’ it would have a different migration policy”), and the recitation of the view that “advocates of unlimited third world immigration have long controlled a disproportionate share of official knowledge production”.

Link shortening, as a different example. Thankfully it finally sort of died. Pre-loading is another. Tiktok is uploading before the file is saved, is another.

URL previews - another thing we warned about for, oh yeah, this reason

Also, IPO incoming, expect it to get worse.
Is it? Ah, well that would explain it.

Discord probably did the math and are willing to take a hit to the user counts
I very much doubt whoever thought about doing the math did so, and if they did, that said math made it out of their department. This kind of decision is much more likely to have been a C-suite darling that no one dared speak against or the equivalent thereof.
I’m saying thoughtful organizational decisions are less common than we’d like.

That’s true. And the reason is most people - still, in 2026 - can’t figure out how computers work. Not that they try to. It’s a low-level social madness that causes catastrophic global changes.

Maybe. That’d be an easy goodbye though.

Not if I read it correctly: not uploading anything (and fuck you Discord) means I won’t get invited to view adult content, right? That’s it? And we’ll all be teens forever?
Pfft. Whatever.

Now what sort of unethical corporate greed machine would do that?
. . . All of them?
Oh. Oh dear.

Ever since they hired a cop to develop copware and their social media genius told us to go fuck ourselves (and their non-apology) they’ve been dead.

ICE also uses AI-powered apps to analyze social media activity and other digital data points to create “life profiles” for people of interest.
The agency has spent at least $5 million on Tangles, a sophisticated tool developed by a company with ties to Israel’s cyber-intelligence community, Forbes reported in September. Tangles mines social media posts, event sign-ups, mobile contacts, location data and more to create nuanced individual portraits and tease out patterns of activity — including organizing and protest — in specific places.
This has always been the goal of facebook. Everything like it falls in that bucket. For the eleventy billionth time, Get the fuck off of them.

Convicted monopoly.

Windows 8, anyone? Anyone? Beuller?

Imagine being the person in the Finland Ministry of Justice who’s been railing on about this for years and constantly getting shit on by idiot managers who can’t install (or use) their own software. Watch it make the national news and then they decide to go ahead and use AWS anyway.
I’m pretty sure a lot of us are that person.

OpenAI has made about $1.4 trillion in commitments to procure both the energy and compute it needs to fuel its operations. But its revenue barely crossed $20 billion in 2025.
Investors are increasingly critical of what they describe as “circular” deals involving the industry’s biggest players. On Wednesday evening, The Information reported that OpenAI is seeking a fresh $60 billion in funding from heavyweights like Nvidia and Amazon. However, market reaction suggests that more capital isn’t going to be a viable substitute for a business model anymore. “Maybe Oracle stock got way ahead of fundamentals, and now the market’s saying, ‘All right, show me, I want to see it,’” Eric Diton, president of the Wealth Alliance, told**Yahoo Finance.

I mean ECHELON was reading satellite traffic in the 70s. Although now we call it Five Eyes. Encryption for regular people just wasn’t a thing until the 90s. Still isn’t for 90% of everyone on most platforms.

Member when “the government is listening!” Was ‘just crazy paranoids’?
Yeah.
