Google Cartographer huh…
There’s no reason a robot vacuum should be even connecting to the internet
This should surprise no one. Didn’t some roomba contractors already get caught wanking to the camera feed a while ago?
Like… Together? In the Roomba control room?
The offending company is iLife and the product is the A11 vacuum robot.
In this case, sure. In general, the offending company is every company and the product is every robot vacuum not running Valetudo third-party firmware.
This is the first I’ve heard of this project, so thank you!
the data collection is all but expected these days… what should be the headline is the remote kill switch the manufacturer used on the guy’s device… repeatedly.
That site will tell you how to hack many models of robot vacuum cleaner to not phone home.
Yeah, homeboy clicked accept on a mile-long ToS. He should know this!
If the Privacy Policy is anything besides “Absolutely NO tracking” I’m cautious. If it requires an always on internet connection, it’s not for me unless it’s a router that supports custom firmware.
Even if they say no tracking, but collect data, I’m still always suspicious. Even of they don’t track, a data breach can ruin my day.
I consider tracking as collecting user data, not a geo-location function.
It’s a crime that Stanislaw Lem did not live to see this
