Troubled Japanese automaker Nissan says it is selling its headquarters building in Yokohama, southwest of Tokyo, for $630 million as part of its revival efforts.
Now I’m no Honda fangirl. The 1.5L is their least reliable engine in a while and they don’t offer a manual Civic below the Si, which is very underpowered and underspecced for its price. They also have removed Civic features to put them in the Integra instead of just making the Integra better. I also think the Integra is overpriced and Acura doesn’t make much else that appeals to me. The new Accord is a borefest and they killed the Accord manual by saying there’s no consumer demand when they decide how many get produced and they sold every one that was produced. The Honda E I agree should’ve been way cheaper and simpler.
After all of that still, to say Honda hasn’t made a good car in 20 years is completely bizarre and incorrect. I would so much rather be in a Civic or CR-V today than a Corolla or RAV4. Personally, I avoided both and got a VW GLI but that’s besides the point.
I’ll be honest, it’s tempting. And I don’t even like small hatchbacks.
The three pedals, the power rating that’s not massive, but quite a bit of punch for such a small car…
But then I remember that my back hurts and I can get a super comfy cruiser from Germany that has a lot more luggage space and is significantly more comfortable, though way less fun to drive… For half the price of the Type R, if I go used. I could also get the Type R for half off, but I have to go older for that, and then we’re talking about a bunch of kilometers on a high-strung 2.0 four pot, versus a similar power rating and kilometers on a 3 liter diesel, which to me sounds like the engine is a lot less stressed.
It’s funny, the Type R isn’t great value for me because it doesn’t depreciate enough. For the people who buy them new, this is the opposite of course - it’s great value because it doesn’t depreciate too much.
You don’t even have to go up to the Type R. Every car review of the Civic Hybrid is basically “we hate this car because it’s so perfect.” It’s the default “I’m looking for a good car.”
The Pilot is also one of the best in its class amongst family 3 rows.
Loved the Honda E design, reminded me so much of the Golf Mk I. If they would have made budget version like Fiat does with the 500e, they could have had a chance, but I thibk the Honda E was too early and too expensive to reach that goal. I’m sad they stopped selling it completely.
Lolol the lengths a CEO will go to protect their ego. (Rather than be a subsidiary to Honda because he wants to be an equal partner.)
To be fair, Honda isn’t exactly a great company today either, it’s been a good 20 years since they made a decent car.
Honda E is the closet thing they’ve got to something decent, but overbuilt to the max and therefore 3x more expensive than it should be.

The civic type R is widely regarded as one of the best cars you can get today.

The fit is discontinued but it’s beloved by its owners
At starting MSPR of ~48K I’m sure there are good contenders.
Yeah but to say they haven’t made a good car in 20 years is absurd. I’m an MX-5 guy myself.
Correct. Still very reliable and suffering less of the overall car industry issues.
