I felt bad dropping €600 on a German hotel thro Expedia but that was genuinely the cheapest place, by such a margin that I couldn’t afford to buy direct. The hotel wouldn’t entertain it at all.
What isn’t helped is the extra discount thro sites like topcashback
The best option is to pay the hotels directly.
There’ll always be a place for travel agents
The only use of these sites is aggregation, then ring and book
The booking page on small hotel websites so often just refers back to their bookings.com page.
Its getting more and more common that you can only call–in for a same day stay. Anything further the receptionist will just send you to their host website or whichever is their host booking engine
Ring them. “Hey, just about to press confirm on the room on booking bed and breakfast for 109, thought I’d check if there was a better rate direct before I clicked.”
Damn. Wasn’t aware of this while booking my recent trips. Hopefully someone can shed some light on EU alternatives.
Hah! Sellouts.
