i used an off-brand sonic toothbrush, it had all the features of the name brand ones and it comes with 6 replacement heads, there are others, but the current one i have isnt sold anymore. i still use oral b 1000 toothbrush, but i bought the “off-brand” brand name replacement which was super cheap and longer lasting than the american replacement heads, the ones that are geared towards german oral b devices.

Surprised noone mentioned Phillips sonicare. It is European, or am I wrong?
I’ve had my sonicare for years but last I checked replacement heads were $30 for a pack of 3 on amazon.
sonicare is quite pricey, at least the replacement, definitely go look for cheaper replacement heads, those should work. or you can look into off-brand ones that are even cheaper.
Oh yeah i always get off brand replacements. Their only disadvantage is that you dont get automatic reminders to replace the head, but i dont mind.
Aside from that its pretty crazy, that the original ones have a nfc chip (i think) on them to enable these notifications - something that is absolutely insane on a prduct you throw away regularly in my opinion.
Sonicare is very good, but I think we can say, that it’s not entirely european. It seems at least China is in the boat too.

Every Sonicare toothbrush I’ve owned has torn itself apart after a year of use.
i dint like sonicare, so i bought an off brand off amazon. seems likes even better than a sonicare, and with free 6 heads. i think there many to choose from(definitely look at the reviews on the off brand for reliability).
the one i had was by “teetheory”(most likely chinese in origin) and it had 5 different modes, and a custom mode, and you can set the intensity of each mode, or your customized version.(this one isnt sold anymore). its quite sturdy, as i dropped it so many times there was no malfunctioning.
I have read abput reliability concerns, especially with the cheaper models. However for myself i have only had issues in my family once out of four times and i was able to fix it by opening it up and tightening a screw that held the head…
So I are is amazing. However, like everything with a battery, it starts to deteriorate after a year and dies after 2 years. I love them though. If you go from a sonic are to an oral b, it feels like you’ve gone from the brush of the future, to using a broken lawnmower in your mouth.

I have used both and my wife too. The Sonicare is a fucking garbage toothbrush. The oral-b is superior in every way. Speaking with my dentist and prior dentists, they also agree. The little buzzing bullshit doesn’t do a near good enough job in removing as mechanical motion of the oral-b

The app is not needed but can help track brushing, instruct on correct brushing and remind on brush head replacement.
Though of course they will tell you to replace the head early because that way they sell more. With Suri, btw, I have a case that has ultraviolet light, I can disinfect the head with that and use the head for a little bit longer that way.

I want one of those tech youtubers to do a test. Buy every product that has an app. Toothbrush, scale, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, oven mittens, etc, install all those apps and see how much they can mess up their phones. Bonus points if they figure out what data they are sending out.
Yes sadly it is. And of course the trackers in the app for Oral-B are off the scale. It’s absolutely not needed, especially when the newer Oral-B’s have the charging station that also doubles as indicator if you press too hard, which sector you should brush and which sectors you have already done (not that I need any of that).
I feel like this sort of stuff will just make everyone completely useless. If we need the toothbrush to tell us how and where to brush our teeth, we are doomed. I hope that day never comes. But it looks like we are heading straight towards it, running and laughing like maniacs.

I think it would be okay as a guidance to teach us to properly clean our teeth (believe it or not, vast majority of people already do not know how to properly do that and dentists do not teach us) but blindly follow apps all the time… We will end up like in wall-e or something. Well thats another thing, that I think is the problem. It seems to me that people these days expect others to teach their kids how to do things. I don’t think dentists should be the ones who teach people how to brush their teeth, it should be the parents. I read recently that kindergarten kids not being potty trained by their parents is becoming a massive problem, I guess the parents expect that to happen in the kindergarten as well. Same goes with discipline and basic behavior. Apparently school teachers have noticed a major change in kids’ ability to behave properly. This constant coddling and “theres an app for that” is going to ruin everything.

This is my only hope. I don’t know if its just the bubble I’m in, but I’ve noticed more and more people going back to doing things the “old” or “hard” way. Most of it is people ditching social media, reddit and whatnot and replacing them with IRC, Lemmy etc. Then theres also the whole old internet revival thing, neocities.org, kagi.com/smallweb/ etc. But theres also a whole bunch of people who are moving away from the city and live more frugally.
Obviously its a small fraction of the population, but who knows, maybe it will grow into something bigger. At the moment I think theres going to be a split, at least online, with people who refuse to use the shiny new software and services and will stick to IRC and other, simpler things.

I agree that parents should be teaching a lots of things, but if they don’t know how to do things, there should be some instances where to amend that. In case of teeth cleaning I think dentists as experts on dental hygiene should be the good resource. Lots of dentists is even overloaded, at least in Czechia, so I would guess its in their interest to teach people how to care about teeth. The story about potty training is crazy. Its like the other day I have been recommended a youtube video that showed stuff like how to clean toielt, bathtube or kitchen, and I was absolutely stunned how many commenters were thanking the guy for showing them how to do that. I mean good that he did, but I would have never thought there is so many people that do not know how to clean after themselves…

I really like having a bigger battery, that I habe to load less than once a month and via a default USB-C cable.
Also Stiftung Warentest did a comparison between electric tooth brushes and theirs rated fairly high. It got severly punished for not providing a comprehensive printed manual, which is a non-issue in my opinion.
