Technology@lemmy.world•EU Commission bans top officials from using Signal groupsEnglish
7·5 days agoSounds like a decentralized encrypted messaging platform is needed.
And when you need the highest trust, you just need to make sure you and the people you are talking to are all on trusted servers.
so governments would use their own gov.eu server or something, and only communicate sensitive info to others on that network so the info never leaves that server

Linux@lemmy.ml•How is Linux on ARM? (For a Laptop)English
1·5 days agoIn theory arm is better for battery, but in practice that’s not always the case.
I read that the new Dell XPS has a longer battery life than its mac book counter parts

1·12 days agoThat is probably true, I do wish for a future where people can migrate to say https://www.eurosky.tech/ and alternatives, while benefiting from having so many users already

101·12 days agoI’d also like this, but I feel you’ll get pushback against this on the Fediverse
Perhaps it’s a feature instance’s can set as default or not themselves

14·12 days agoNo, that’s why I said it’s technically decentralized.
They have 40 million users though, they focused on UX first, and will now hopefully not be dicks and actually become decentralized

Fediverse@lemmy.world•With Reddit flirting with requiring Age verification, the next Rexit might be around the corner, are we ready?English
261·12 days agoI think we should just hide all of that complexity and just set defaults for everything that the user can decide to change if they want. You don’t have to understand how the Fediverse works to be able to use it. Most people don’t understand how email works, they just use it.
BlueSky has 40+ million users, and it’s also technically decentralized like the Fediverse.
aka. you can use the eurosky.social or bluesky.social server etc.

You can communicate a LOT more info in a short time-span with a image.

22·19 days agoI really hate the elitism / gatekeeping I so often see on here.
People scoffing at those still using other platforms, thinking they’re better than them etc.

Sounds great, I didn’t know about that
