Once you take away the rights of one group, its much easier to take away another ones. The rapist or killer not getting beaten in a prison ensures you dont get beaten in prison after petty crime. At the very least a system like in norway is required that promotes reeducation rather than punishment. Of course this isnt a comment about el salvador because they are waaay past this but more of a warning to nations with some remaining human rights(mainly europe at this point…)
Not like they pay any upkeep for them
If that Idi Amin right now does more, country should be renamed El Matador.
The country with the fascist extermination camps that accept anyone for money without any possible chance of appeal extends their laws to start exterminating children?
Who could have possibly seen this coming?
Just imprison everyone already. Surely that will fix every possible problem.
He looks like a movie villain announcing the next Hunger Games.
His jacket looks like it fits a 12 year old

Wow. Is the modern day literally just a fucking joke by the universe or some shit?
“Are you not entertained???”
Look, I’ve met my fair share of psychotic 12 year olds, including ones that were already killing and skinning squirrels and cats, but LIFE SENTENCE? Any 12 year old committing a crime that is worthy of a life sentence requires serious psychological help, not being thrown in prison…
In civilized countries, a “life” sentence is actually just contingent on rehabilitation.
A life sentence here you become eligible for parole in 10-25 years depending on the crime. It does not mean you will be granted it though, and you can remain in prison your whole life. You also remain on parole your entire life if granted.
There’s no life without parole here.
They should probably rename it, then.
You gotta change your life man - sentence?
The idea is that they can keep you for life if you are never safe to release.
“Sort your shit out” sentence?
Isn’t that a “His Majesty’s Pleasure”?
Mostly a fear tactic, would be surprising to see the state house and feed an inmate for 60+ years of life expectancy.
The US does. Even if not fixed life it’ll happily pay for egregiously long sentences that surpass the threat of the crime, stack and “enhance” charges to create longer sentences, and uses probation & parole like a revolving door to find new ways to send people back for violations often over personal vice rather than violence in their community. The part of the population that screams loudest against funding food/healthcare/living programs for their non-criminal neighbors are also the ones who love this system, but they won’t fund any part of it that would teach skills or provide education. They lost their shit when Biden allowed inmates to get Pell grants and colleges sought to offer degrees to inmates. Can’t have your constitutionally allowed slave force enlighten their way out of the cycle.
Fear tactics don’t work. Else we would have no criminals serving life sentences
same.here in Australia, apparently we can have criminal masterminds who are 12 but cant touch pee pee, or have a beer.
Oof, this is the shithole maga wants to model itself on? Slavery.
well they previously wanted to model themselves on Hungary, but then their leading man lost.
I thought they were going for Argentina
It’s actually Saudi Arabia.
El Salvador sounds like a lovely country!
Problem is… it’s better now than it was before.
Yeah!! I would sure love to live in an alt-right narco-state that wants to imprison everybody for some reason
Jesus fucking christ

Depressed smoking Jesus describes recent world events quite well.
Yeah dude El Salvador is fucked
Turns out the UK does this, but it’s usually “At His Majesty’s Pleasure”. Some people like Robert Thompson were released shortly after reaching adulthood
The term is used to describe detention in prison for an indefinite length of time;[3] a judge may rule that a person be “detained at His Majesty’s pleasure” for serious offences or based on a successful insanity defence.[4] This is sometimes used where there is a great risk of re-offending. However, it is most often used for juvenile offenders, usually as a substitute for life sentencing (which might be much longer for youthful offenders). For example, section 259 of the Sentencing Act 2020 (which applies to England and Wales) states, “where […] a person convicted of murder, or any other offence the sentence for which is fixed by law as life imprisonment, and the person appears to the court to have been aged under 18 at the time the offence was committed. The court must sentence the offender to be detained during Her Majesty’s pleasure.”[5]
Prisoners held at His Majesty’s pleasure are periodically reviewed to determine whether their sentence can be deemed complete; although this power traditionally rested with the monarch, such reviews are now made in the name of the monarch, on the advice of government officials — the Secretary of State for Justice in England and Wales, for instance. Minimum terms are also set, before which the prisoner cannot be released; in England and Wales, these were originally set by the Home Secretary, but, since 30 November 2000, have been set by the trial judge.[6] Prisoners’ sentences are typically deemed to be complete when the reviewing body is “satisfied that there has been a significant change in the offender’s attitude and behaviour”.[6]

It’s specifically not life in prison because minors aren’t fully responsible for themselves and life from the age of 10 and life from the age of, for example, 55 are completely different things.
I think the James Bulger case is a good one. Robert Thompson got his act together and was released at 18. John Venables has been recalled to prison and remains there.
Why not the death penalty?! /s
Because slavery is more profitable.
Because it is a waste of life… that 12 year old will serve the state as a labourer. We’re talking cleaning toilets, doing construction, with overseers and all.
It’s free real estate.
Idk. I kind of feel like there are crimes 12 year olds can do to warrant a lifetime in prison.
Mass murders. Even raping and killing other kids.
It’s rare but it happens.
Lifetime imprisonment implies no path for rehabilitation. A 12 year old hasn’t matured mentally and imposing this sentence feels like you consider the situation hopeless. For a 12 year old to not change feels impossible to me. A 12 year old doesn’t remember half of its life for fucks sake
Well. You may want to look into psychopathy. And how often kids or adults can be treated for it.
The answer is , not at all.
There are some people who, through a complex interactions of genes and environmental influence, or through damage to the prefrontal cortex, , are incapable of empathy, sympathy, or any morality.
There are limits on rehabilitation.
Can such people be identified as children ?
Maybe. Surely with some level of error. But the harm such people can and often do comitt over a lifetime is very great. Do they deserve a chance to reoffend repeatedly?
There are humans that cannot be taught to be different. They can’t be treated. They don’t improve with therapy.
.maybe think about donald trump who is a classic case of psychopathy.
He is literally incapable of changing.
He’s not a unique case.
There is a famous professor from. Stanford who has discussed this topic a bit in lectures and in interviews. Robert Sapolsky
Here is one such interview.
