Honest question: what kind of outreach does the Catholic church do to migrants in Europe?

The Vatican has a surface area of 0.44km² - most of it is the palace, museum and gardens. Not sure how many refugees they could realistically host. They do however have services for the poor (food/baths - free of charge) and have rules on churches (worldwide) taking in, providing shelter and food for a certain ammount of ‘refugees of any kind’. Do with that what you will.

And how many acres of monasteries and churches don’t they own? Let refugees live there. It’s only fair if they tell secular institutions to give them living spaces.

Tell us what you are doing or „sacrificing“ for the migrants and poor except writing some bold accusations and demands on Lemmy.

          I assume nothing.

I am not a massive, global, wealthy organization morally browbeating the rest of the world. The Catholic Church is.

The Catholic Church generally doesn’t care whether you personally obey its teachings. It states its position and people are free to ignore it. BTW, you do the classic mistake by unifying “religia” and “ecclesia”, which shows that you do not understand well the Christian Church and religion. Also, is the Catholic Church even the giant boogeyman you’re making it out to be? Christianity has been declining across much of the Western world for years, especially the Catholic Church.

What’s more interesting, however, is your selective outrage. You pointed out right away Christianity, but you seem also be perfectly comfortable with Islam, which is at least as large globally and often far more socially conservative on the very issues people complain about when discussing Catholicism.

But that’s pretty typical partisan behavior. Some people on the left have blind spots about religions they view as “protected” minorities. Some people on the right have blind spots about religions they identify with. Everyone’s principles tend to become flexible when their preferred tribe is involved.

The CC is HUGELY influential in many countries where it severely curbs the rights of women, LGBT and minority religions. This “liberal progressive catholicism” is only a thing in USA.

                “religia” and “ecclesia”

What relevance does it have in this discussion?

Also, is the Catholic Church even the giant boogeyman you’re making it out to be?

I am not sure what boogeyman i am making them out to be. But think my assesment of their hypocrisy is accurate.

Christianity has been declining across much of the Western world for years, especially the Catholic Church.

                Good.

What’s more interesting, however, is your selective outrage.

Why are you bringing up islam? I don’t think islam is good either. All religions that seek to bring everyone under their banner are bad.

Are you Catholic since you are so addement about defending them?

If you do not understand the difference between ecclesia and religio, I cannot really help you further. It does, however, suggest a lack of understanding of some important concepts. Understanding that distinction would also answer your last question.

Edit: Ah, and by the way, saying that the decline of the Catholic Church is a good thing does not make you much different from the more extreme Christians you criticize. Both positions ultimately celebrate the weakening of a group.

Lol I don’t suggest pushing this opinion on Lemmy. I know, you’re likely German or Swede with likely higher education (just refuting previous commenter) who’s really tired of your home country getting destroyed, but it doesn’t matter since they can move to another rich country to benefit from, this is not a problem for majority of Lemmy or immigrants, and therefore this opinion will nearly always ends up getting downvoted because majority don’t feel the consequences of mass immigration.

im always amazed by how i support imigration is just the new i have a black friend for rich ppl. They never live in zone where migrants are send to live and wheere they devlop durgs and minor traficking cause they can’t integrate. The issue must be racism and asbolutely not economics, security and social cohesion. We can in theory accept some iimigration. Not at this rate and not without control. With the european and local law on immigration we can’t even check their antecedent identity or even their age. We had litteral terrorist, crime against humanity offender, rapist pedophile and so on comming like this. But saying it s wrong we should do more to protect ourself, yeah that s just racims nothing else

The race argument has always felt funny to me. Most immigrants in my country are white (mostly from Balkans or Russia)
